Eli Haines was a son of John & Mary Haines. He married (1) Ruth Miller in 1802 in Virginia. They moved to Redstone, where Ruth died. In the US Census of 1850, Haines was a farmer in Luzerne Township, Fayette County, southwest of Brownsville. A daughter of Eli & Ruth married Joseph Haviland, who was a Gurneyite minister, and Eli was living with them at the time of the 1860 U.S. Census. The Havilands moved to New York in 1862. Eli Haines's name does not appear in the US Census of 1870, suggesting that he had died.
